Name: Sabal minor, dwarf sabal, sabal Adansonii

As indicated by the name of the species, it is a small palm tree, most often devoid of trunk. The stipe is subterranean, stocky and slightly creeping, saxophone-shaped. The leaves are born at the ground level. They are simply webbed and are reminiscent of palms of T.fortunei. The fins are relatively large and they can break easily if the wind blows hard. The inflorescences are longer than the leaves and bloom in clusters of small white flowers. Like all Sabals, the species is monoecious.

Soil and exposure of the Palm Sabal Minor

The Sabal minor is not a tree, it must be considered more as a bushy shrub to be planted in groups by odd number of preference. Little aesthetic shemale,it becomes much more unusual and decorative in a group of several individuals. Warning ! the species does not produce discards, so plant several feet side by side to obtain a mass effect.

In cultivation it is strongly recommended to plant this small palm on a rich soil and especially very watered. This is the condition sine qua non to obtain a correct growth. If not, it will be terribly slow!

The exhibition does not matter: full sun, partial shade or even undergrowth are suitable. Only the morphology of the plant will feel it, and will be all the more stocky as it will grow in the sun./ P>

The wind is the main enemy of this little sabal, it irreparably breaks his palms, which then take the appearance of a folded umbrella. But this palm is one of the most resistant to the cold that exists, it is also in Alsace or we have several in the ground.
