Name: Strelitzia Reginae, bird of paradise
The Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) is a persistent plant that belongs to the Strelitziaceae family. The genus Strelitzia comprises 5 species of perennials growing naturally in the glades and on the banks of South African rivers. Some of them can reach nearly 10 meters in height (S. alba, S. nicolai...) but the Strelitzia grown in our apartments will not exceed 2 meters in height .

Strelitzia is not a hardy plant but/ Span>will tolerate some quick episodes of light frost in extremely well drained soil . However, it can only be grown in the open ground in the warmest regions of our country and in the most sheltered gardens. Plant it in a fertile soil, fresh but especially very porous and in asheltered area of the coldest winds . Install your bird of paradise in full sun if possible exposed to the South .
